Description

I found this beautiful butterfly called Aglais Io, the European peacock or the peacock butterfly.

It was formerly classified as the only member of the genus Inachis, the name is derived from Greek mythology, meaning Io, the daughter of Inachus – She was a priestess of Hera in Argos.
The Peacock Butterfly’s vivid hues not only send transforming signals but also have spiritual meaning. In many traditions, the blue-green and gold hues of the Peacock Butterfly’s wings represent spiritual enlightenment and the unification of the heart and mind. Its eye-like patterns on its wings are said to represent the all-seeing eye and the ability to perceive beyond what is visible to the naked eye.
In the end, the Peacock Butterfly reminds us of the beauty and wisdom found in nature and acts as a potent spiritual guide.

There’s something magical about the transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly, making these beautiful winged insects a favorite of many. As you can imagine, their metamorphosis is in first line a metaphor for rebirth.

Celtic mythology regards butterflies as a symbol of the soul. There’s an old Irish saying that goes “Butterflies are souls of the dead waiting to pass through Purgatory.” They’re thought to be able to cross into other realms and also represent transformation, creation, and rebirth.

Butterflies show us how we can go within ourselves to dissolve old forms and morph, rebuilding and evolving ourselves, as part of the essential process of growth and renewal.
